What is recorded here
Milecross in County Down, Ireland holds the buried remains of a graveyard now lost from ordinary sight. The site is no longer marked by headstones or fences, but the ground still belongs to the dead who slept there before the town changed. People may have walked past the graves for centuries, forgetting the names and dates until the earth itself stopped giving them back. What is missing is not an excuse to stop imagining; it is a reason to listen for the shape of the lives that vanished beneath the soil.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as GRAVEYARD (site of). Recorded period: UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
