Graveyard in Kyle East,kyle West

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Graveyard in Kyle East, Kyle West, County Kilkenny, Ireland: Carrigan (1905) claimed the original Cooliagh church and its graves once stood in a churchyard field, then vanished under the plough. The field may have swallowed marks, bones and memory alike, leaving only soil to remember what people stopped naming.
According to Carrigan (1905, 335) the original parish church of Cooliagh (KK026-036----) was situated in the townland of ‘Kyle’, together with its graveyard, in the ‘churchyard field’, but had been uprooted and ‘subject to the plough’. The precise location of this church within the townlands of Kyle East and Kyle West is unknown. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 18 June 2013
