Graveyard in Killiney

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Killiney graveyard stands where an ancient earthen rath once circled the dead, its boundary later replaced by the present stone wall. The transition from earth to stone suggests a community eager to make mortality visible and permanent rather than hidden beneath soil. That change reveals a local desire to confront loss instead of burying it literally.
Killiney graveyard site is located on the Marino Avenue West, leading E off Killiney Hill road. According to Wakeman (1892, 102) the cemetery was originally enclosed by an earthen rath, which was replaced by the present stone boundary wall (DU026-013008-).
