Death came often in Cregg, perhaps from fever, birth or the raw Atlantic weather, and each loss needed a hole in the earth and a moment of silence before the living scattered home. The graveyard stands as a quiet witness to that repeated grief, marking the boundary where human frustration ended and memory began. It is not a grand monument but a functional scar on the Galway landscape, shaped by ordinary people who had no choice but to bury their dead and keep walking.
