What is recorded here
Killeigh is not a new graveyard but the visible tip of a much older religious place, with burial stones from the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries set beside buildings that once belonged to a Franciscan abbey. That abbey replaced an Augustinian priory, and both stood on ground already shaped by the monastery credited to St. Sinchell in the sixth century. The layering is literal: stone, ruin, reuse and memory have kept returning to the same spot, making even an ordinary headstone feel like the latest chapter in a long local life.
Graveyard is a graveyard in County Offaly, Ireland.
