Graveslab in Unknown is a tapering granite pillar in County Carlow, Ireland, bearing a Maltese cross in relief. It may have marked a buried life before becoming a gate pillar, yet the transition from mourning to threshold still holds the shape of the cross. The stone does not explain itself, but it invites imagination about the hands that carried it and the doorway it now guards.
Slightly tapering, squared granite pillar, (H 1.36m; 0.31-0.24m x 0.26m). Maltese cross in relief (0.31m x 0.39m). Date uncertain. Now used as gate pillar. (See CW022-056---- for present location)
