What is recorded here
Inistioge Augustinian Priory graveyard holds a 1600 grave slab for Peter Joyce and Elena Tobin, marked IHS, a relief cross and a Latin Black Letter border. They are not kings or heroes in the usual sense, yet they were important enough to be remembered beneath priory stones. The chamber may have belonged to a priest, a merchant, a physician or a displaced family, but the request for remembrance is clear.
In the graveyard (KK032-017020-) at the Augustinian Priory (KK032-017004-) in Inistioge. A floor slab with ‘IHS’ and a cross in relief in the centre and a Latin inscription in Black Letter around the edge commemorating Peter Joyce and his wife Elena Tobin. The slab is dated c. 1600. (Carrigan 1905, vol. 4, 112; Cockerham and Harris 2001, 186)
