Inside the west wall of St. Mary’s Church in Kilkenny, a thirteenth-century graveslab watches the street through stone. Chisel marks cut a circle that may have topped a cross, but no name remains to identify the dead. The church reused the fragment as building material south of its tower, turning a personal marker into permanent wall flesh.

At St Mary's parish church (KK019-026115-) in Kilkenny. Fragment of 13th/14th-century uninscribed graveslab, made from fossiliferous limestone (Ó Drisceoil 2006, 11). Reused in the external face of the W wall of the nave of St. Mary’ Church, S of the 1820 tower. The slab bears an incised circle which may form part of the cross-head.
