Graveslab in Fethard

Lying in the floor in the S aisle of the medieval parish church of St John the Baptist (TS070-040001-), currently Holy Trinity C of I church. A tapering limestone slab (L 1.06; Wth at top 0.38m; Wth at base 0.23m) which is described by Maher (1997, 59) as follows, 'The outline incised design consists of an encircled cross-head which features three partially surviving pennanular, interlocking circles. The remainder of the design is rather worn. A simple outline trefoil occurs at the base of the cross-stem. The outer edges of the slab are defined by a groove. There is no evidence for an original inscription, however, a modern one, incised in Roman capitals, occurs across the base of the cross-head. It reads: MEARY CONNELL'.
