Graveslab in Fethard

In the graveyard (TS070-040044-) of the Augustinian abbey (TS070-040004-), standing against the external N wall of the N transept, the westernmost of a row of graveslabs. This slab (H above ground 1.1m; Wth 0.73m; D 0.15m) is partially buried in the ground, the lower portion is not visible. It is decorated in relief with a banded seven-armed cross with fleur-de-lis terminals. The cross is quite faded. The inscription, in english in Roman lettering, runs around the border, beginning in the top dexter corner, and reads: HERE LYES CHRISTOPHER NUGENT 1 BA.......Y OF APRILL IN THE YEARE 1672. It was transcribed by Brennan (1862-3, 147) and appears on a sketch of the graveslab, however, the placing of the wording is not completely accurate and does not represent how it actually appears on the slab. Brennan's transcription is as follows: CHARLES CHRISTOPHER NUGENT 1 BARON OF DELVINI WHO DIED 15 DAY OF APRIL IN THE YEAR 1672' (Brennan 1862-3, 149).
