Graveslab in Fethard

In the graveyard (TS070-040044-) of the Augustinian abbey (TS070-040004-), standing against the external N wall of the N transept, the fourth from the E of a row of graveslabs. Described by Maher (1997, 57) as the lower portion of a slab (H above ground 1.13m; Wth 0.93m; T 0.13m) with a chamfer (Wth 0.03m) along the dexter and sinister edges, which is decorated, in relief with 'the lower portion of a cross-shaft which terminates in a pillar-base form. On either side of it are two worn heraldic shields, the dexter example featuring a decorative base. An inscription in Black Letter occurs along the dexter and sinister edges of the slab. It is very worn and only the following is legible: Sinister: 1[superscript A]...2 [superscript O] (N?)US UXORE...F.ERIB91. Dexter: ...MAII...'. There is a rectangular perforation at the base of the slab which suggests that at some stage it may have been re-used as a spud-stone. The surface of the slab is badly scored.
