Graveslab in Callan South is a 2.03m polished limestone slab set into the NE chancel floor of St Mary’s church, Callan, its tapering body marked by a false-relief cross with fleur-de-lys terminals and no inscription. Dating to the 13th or 14th century, it lies barely raised above the surrounding stones, as if the church kept one person’s shape hidden beneath ordinary footsteps. The absence of a name does not empty it; it widens the chamber, inviting anyone who passes to imagine whose life was measured against that quiet cross.

Lying in the NE angle of the chancel of St Mary’s church (KK026-010012-), Callan, formerly beside the pulpit (Carrigan 1905, vol. 3, 299). A long narrow tapering polished limestone slab (L 2.03m; Wth at top 0.6m; Wth at base 0.32m; T 0.12m) rising slightly (O.03m) above the surrounding floor slabs. The edge of the slab is defined by a raised chamfered border. The slab is decorated in false refief with a four-armed lozenge-shaped cross with fleur-de-lys terminals. There is a circular knop beneath the cross-headed. The cross-shaft (Wth 0.03m) terminates with a fleur-de-lys. A thin raised band (Wth 0.01m) crosses the face of the graveslab horizontally about two-thirds from the top. The graveslab does not appear to bear an inscription.
