Four seventeenth-century graveslabs vanished from Claregalway friary before June 2018, erasing even the isolated letters that remained on their worn surfaces. They may have been buried, moved or lost to time, but their absence confirms that death itself forgot the names it once recorded.

Bradley and Dunne (1992, 62) noted ‘four slabs of seventeenth century date with inscriptions almost completely worn away and on which only isolated letters can now be determined’ at Claregalway friary (GA070-035001-).
