Four graveslabs from the seventeenth century still lie hidden inside Claregalway friary, their inscriptions worn until only isolated letters remain. They vanished from plain sight between surveys, forcing researchers to walk past familiar stone while the dead kept their names back. The building does not lose its history; it withholds it, waiting for patience sharp enough to earn the truth.

Bradley and Dunne (1992, 62) noted ‘four slabs of seventeenth century date with inscriptions almost completely worn away and on which only isolated letters can now be determined’ at Claregalway friary (GA070-035001-).
