Grave Yd holds a steep south-facing slope above Clonakilty, crowded with eighteenth-century headstones and newer chest tombs. Its Church of Ireland building stands on the footprint of an older church, suggesting that death and worship have shared this exact ground for centuries. People may have chosen the slope because sunlight struck it longer than the shadowed valley below, turning grief into a place where life could still be seen.
