Grave Yd

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yd is a living graveyard in County Kildare where new burials still join 18th-century table-slabs beside a ruined church. Its low stone wall holds a narrow path through gently undulating pastureland, while the road passes above the dead. The place is not a forgotten ruin but a continuing neighbourhood of memory, patience and local life.
Located on the roadside in gently undulating pastureland. It contains a ruined church (KD003-014001-), and is still used for burial. A sub-rectangular area (dims. L c. 58m E-W; Wth c. 35m) is enclosed by a low, mortared stone wall, skirted by an internal path. The earliest legible burial inscriptions are 18th century and are visible on several table-slabs to the E of the church. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
