Why this matters

A local ancient tomb; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

Within a ringfort (GA082-011----). The interior has been in use as a graveyard since time of 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map. Though still in use for general burial in 1970 (Topgr. Files, UCG), the name lisheen suggests that this was once restricted to children. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
