Graig Wood Motte; Graig-yr-Eurych, Castle Mound

Motte

What is recorded here

Graig Wood Motte rises in Newport as a medieval castle mound, the kind of earthwork built to mark power before stone walls became common. It may have watched the wood, stored grain, or sheltered a small household when the area felt exposed. People likely climbed its slope, dropped ropes into cellars, or simply pointed at it and called it home. The mound still holds that much, even when every name and room has disappeared.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records Graig Wood Motte; Graig-yr-Eurych, Castle Mound as Motte from the Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
