What is recorded here

Gorteen Grave Yard holds plain boulder-marked graves on a SE-facing slope above Port na Feadóige, beside sand-dunes and an old shell midden. It has grown from a small oval enclosure into a rectangular yard walled against the galway wind. People have kept returning to this exact place, marking new loss beside older stones while the port and dunes witness every burial.

Close to the sand-dunes on SE-facing slope overlooking Port na Feadóige. Indicated on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a small, roughly oval enclosed area (c. 30m by c. 15m). Now enlarged into a roughly rectangular graveyard and enclosed by field walls. The interior slopes from NW to SE and contains both modern and plain boulder-marked graves.
