Gort Castle

Sixth-century kings, O'Shaughnessy banquets, a bloody 1650 storm and barracks built from castle stones: Gort compressed a thousand years into one hillside. Ludlow's men climbed walls with firewood shields while Folliot fought with two knives, and eighty defenders surrendered only as the building burned. The castle did not fade; it was broken open and reborn as a weapon depot, which is why fragments still glitter inside ordinary military walls.
