Gores Island

Islet

What is recorded here

Jane Spratt died on Gores Island in 1910 after seventy years there, leaving behind two hills, soft mud, and a causeway that appears only when the tide retreats. Boys and girls from Malone Training School later camped on the abandoned land, running across grass that had stopped answering to human routines. The island did not belong to memory or ownership; it belonged to rhythm, giving itself up at low water and taking itself back before dawn.
Gores Island is recorded as a islet in County Down. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
