Good Hope: Old Slains Castle, North Sea

Lugger (20th Century)

What is recorded here

Good Hope is a twentieth-century lugger recorded near Old Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The name suggests optimism, but the North Sea gives back little and takes without arguing. A lugger must read wind, water and swagger, while the castle watches from the margin like a ghost refusing to leave the story. Hope may have sailed there, carried goods or people, then disappeared into the ordinary churn of lives that no longer remember the deck.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Good Hope: Old Slains Castle, North Sea as Lugger (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
