What is recorded here

Stand on Gollan Hill and the ancient cairn still holds the summit, a broad ring of stone beneath a modern cross. Look out over Lough Swilly and the land beyond, and imagine the people who first gathered there to mark the sky, the sea and their own lives. The cross changed the shape, but it did not erase the older purpose.

A mound of stones c. 20m in diameter and 3.5m high situated on the summit of Gollan Hill in mountain terrain with marvellous views over Lough Swilly and surrounding land. A Bronze Age cairn, likely constructed during the first millennium BCE. Its location and size suggest it may have been a significant ceremonial or funerary monument in a landscape of wider prehistoric importance.
