Gob Glas is a coastal headland composed primarily of basaltic rock, formed during volcanic activity in the Mesozoic Era, approximately 60 to 100 million years ago. Its notable dark, columnar basalt formations are indicative of ancient lava flows that cooled and contracted, creating the distinctive jointing seen in many Scottish coastal landscapes.
