Glass works in Glasshouse

In the late 16th century 'Manuscripts of the Marquis of Salisbury, c. 1597', there is a reference to a certain George Longe who had 'kept ten years in the end of Dumfenning woods a glass house' (Westropp 1978, 23-4). According to Westropp (ibid., 24), 'the glass-house is said to have been situated in the neighbourhood of Curryglass, Co. Cork, at the western end of the woods. There is a townland still called Glasshouse about a mile to the south of Curryglass, and as it bears the name, it seems to indicate that a glass works existed on this townland at some former period. The exact site of the glass-house has not as yet been ascertained'. This glass-works is unlocated within Glasshouse townland.
