What is recorded here

Giant's Hill in Rampton is an abandoned castle earthwork built during The Anarchy by forces of King Stephen to contain Geoffrey de Mandeville. The unfinished mound still rises beside All Saints' Church, marking the eastern edge of the medieval village and the moment royal power collided with local rebellion. Its incompleteness suggests de Mandeville's death at Burwell Castle in 1144 stopped the work before stone, gate or tower could answer the hill's shape.
Giant's Hill is shown as a castle on the public map of South Cambridgeshire. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
