Gertrude Kelly

Gertrude Kelly was born in Carrick-on-Suir in 1862, the exact origin of a woman who later became a pioneering surgeon and radical anarchist in America. She left that Irish town at eleven, carrying forward a defiant spirit that rejected marriage, religion and capitalist loyalty. Her life became a vast experiment in personal freedom, leading waterfront strikes and challenging the boundaries placed on women and workers.
