This black commemorative plaque records: 1928-2003 Tyne Bridge 75th Anniversary. Designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson. Constructed by Dorman Long & Co. Opened 10th October 1928 by HM King George V accompanied by HM Queen Mary. Recorded plaque organisation: City of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead Council.

King George V of the United Kingdom reigned from 1910 to 1936, guiding Britain through World War I; Queen Mary of Teck was his consort known for her support during wartime and commitment to royal duties. Sir Basil Mott FRS 1st Baronet, David Anderson, and David Hay were engineers who designed the Tyne Bridge, a significant example of 20th-century engineering and a landmark in Newcastle upon Tyne.
