This bronze commemorative plaque records: George Fox the founder of the society of Friends or Quakers, shortly after his release from prison at Derby at the beginning of the Winter 1651, stood without shoes on a market day in this market place and denounced the City of Lichfield.

George Fox was the founder of the Religious Society of Friends, known as Quakers, advocating for pacifism and direct personal religious experience; his actions, such as preaching barefoot in Lichfield, contributed to the spread of Quaker beliefs despite persecution.
