This blue commemorative plaque records: George Eliot the novelist, visited the town in 1859 and renamed it St. Oggs in her novel, The Mill on the Floss published 4th April 1860 Recorded plaque organisation: The Delvers.
George Eliot, real name Mary Anne Evans, was a prominent Victorian novelist whose works, including "The Mill on the Floss," explored complex moral issues and social norms, significantly influencing 19th-century literature.
