Professor Gathorne Robert Girdlestone was a pioneering orthopedic surgeon who significantly advanced hip surgery techniques, notably developing the Girdlestone procedure for treating infected total hip arthroplasty. He is also remembered for founding the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, which has become a leading institution in orthopedic care and research.
