Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the standing stone may have served a ritual or territorial function. The name "Gallán" and local references to "Dallauns" suggest a possible link to early Christian or folk traditions, though its original prehistoric meaning remains unclear.

What is recorded here

In pasture. Pair of stones depicted and named 'Dallauns' on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Single stone (H 1.4m; 1.2m x 0.8m) survives, roughly rectangular in shape. Hartnett (1939, 52) recorded second stone (H 18ins) 11ft to W. Ringbarrow (CO060-106001-) in same field a short distance to W.
