No visible building remains at the marked point, only the possibility that a privy once stood there beside Fyvie Castle. The exact position is known within one metre, yet the structure has vanished or never attracted more than a pit and wooden frame. Whatever it was, it served the castle in its most ordinary way: a place for the body to leave before the mind returned to thought.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Fyvie Castle, Disused Privy as Toilet (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Fyvie Castle, including its disused privy, was originally built by the Forbes family in the 13th century, with significant expansions occurring in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is important as a well-preserved example of medieval and later Scottish castle architecture and as a historic seat of the Forbes clan.
