Fulacht fia in Tylagh

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Hot stones, boiling water, and hunger or cleanliness. That is all a fulacht fia needs, yet people imagine gods because ordinary life sounds flat. Tylagh keeps several of these shallow mounds near the Lee Valley, which means the valley was busy enough to heat water again and again. The missing trough does not erase the function; it only removes the stage set.
'This site is located approximately 40m south of KE030-087----..........Like other similar sites in this general area of Tylagh townland, the site affords good views of the Lee Valley to the south and south-west. The grass covered low mound is 0.61m in maximum height and measures 10.9m N-S by 11.8m E-W. again, as with KE030-012----, KE030-086----, KE030-087----, no trough area is visible.' Description from ‘The Prehistoric Settlement of the Lee Valley, Tralee, Co. Kerry; A Landscape Perspective’ by Michael Connolly. PhD Thesis UCC 2008 Date of upload: 12 July 2012
