Fulacht fia in Rathgoggan South

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In level pasture. Discovered during construction of Bruff-Mallow gas pipeline (Gowen 1988, 179). Semicircular spread of burnt material extending from left side of pipeline corridor forming a semicircular plan, measuring 6m in length and extending 3.8m into corridor. No mound visible in field outside corridor; possible that spread derives from another fulacht fiadh (11547) c. 4m to S. (pers. comm. M. Gowen). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
