Fulacht fia in Keelhilla

At the S end of a sheltered, shallow grassy depression (c. 30m across) which is surrounded by a raised rim of rock outcrop at S, W and N and is open at E to a flat expanse of karstic pavement. It is overlooked to W by the steep cliffs of Eagle’s Rock which form the E side of Slieve Carran ridge/Gortaclare Mountain and is within the Keelhilla/Slievecarran Nature Reserve (Burren National Park). A low, crescent-shaped mound (10m NE−SW; 6m NW−SE; H 0.65m at SW, 0.75m at SW) enclosing a damp central hollow (2.2m NW−SE; 1.7m NE−SW; D 0.5m) which opens to NW where the ground is wet and soggy in parts. The mound is composed of a dense concentration limestone fragments in dark grey/black soil.
