Fulacht fia in Foulkscourt

One of a cluster of five fulachta fia (see also KK008-165----, KK008-166-----, KK008-167----, KK008-188----) and three burnt mounds (KK008-190----, KK008-191----, KK008-192----) excavated in 2006 in advance of construction of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel Road Improvement Scheme (Excavation licence no. E2391). A mound (L 3.2m; Wth 4.84m; D 0.02-0.13m) composed of black sandy silt with frequent charcoal, burnt stone and burnt bone. A pit (L 1.4m; Wth 1m; D 0.15-0.2m) with sloping sides and an uneven base lay immediately adjacent to the N of the mound. A charcoal sample from the mound yielded a radiocarbon date of 1300-1040 cal BC (Poz-26541).
