What is recorded here

Hot stones cracked and hissed in Clooneen while people waited for water to boil. They may have cooked food, cleaned cloth or prepared a gift for someone important. The mound still holds mixed stone and dark soil, waiting beside reclaimed bog for a hand to remember the heat.

In reclaimed pasture, bordering a flat expanse of boggy ground which stretches to SE–S. Prior to modern reclamation, the wet ground is likely to have extended closer to the fulacht fia. Prominent, roughly circular grass-covered mound (15.3m NE–SW; 15m NW–SE; H 0.4m at SW, 0.8m at NE). There is a pronounced circular depression (diam. c. 2m) at the NNW edge of the mound, but it is not clear if this represents the location of a trough or is merely the result of recent disturbance.
