This blue commemorative plaque records: Royal Beacon Hotel. The hotel was constructed c1810 and was originally called the Marine Hotel. The proprietor changed the name to the Royal Beacon Hotel after a short visit by the King of Saxony in 1844 Recorded plaque organisation: Exmouth Society.
King Frederick Augustus II of Saxony (1797-1854) was a significant European monarch who also served as Elector of Saxony and Duke of Warsaw; his visit to the hotel in 1844 reflects the international prestige he held during his reign.
