Frank Harris

Galway, Ireland, gave birth to James Thomas Harris in 1856, the boy who would become Frank Harris and write the banned memoir My Life and Loves. A Welsh naval officer’s son, he left that coast at twelve for Wales, ran away from school, then crossed to New York penniless at fourteen to black boots and build the Brooklyn Bridge. The sea that bordered his childhood seems to have taught him restlessness: a life in motion, from cattle trails to Kansas law to London journals, every change of air turning experience into story.
