STEAD 1849-1912 Radical Journalist and worker for Women's Rights, and for Peace. Lived in Howdon on Tyne, 1850-1871 Metropolitan borough of North Tyneside.
Francis Herbert Stead was a pioneer social reformer who crusaded for the rights of pensioners and significantly contributed to the establishment of old age pensions in the UK. His efforts were foundational in shaping early 20th century social welfare policies.
