Fourmerkland Tower and Barmkin stand in Dumfries and Galloway as a medieval tower house and barmkin, still marked on the official map with a point accurate to the nearest metre. The stones may have watched carts, herds or fleeing people pass beneath their edges, while the barmkin kept whatever life the tower contained safe when danger came.
