Four bowl barrows on Long Hill, 220m west of Mere Castle are Bronze Age burial mounds still standing on elevated Wiltshire ground. They belong to the Early to Middle Bronze Age, when prominent land was chosen for death rituals across Wessex. The barrows mark a time when people shaped hills into vessels for the dead, and they remain protected as a scheduled monument because that ancient choice is still worth remembering.
