What is recorded here

Fortified house and bawn in Staffordstown, County Antrim, where a battle raged in 1641. Stones may still hold the shape of rooms and defences, while the violence of that day has faded into rumour. A person standing inside the bawn at dusk might imagine lantern light moving along the wall and hear the clash of weapons echoed in wind. The place remains scheduled, preserving both the domestic life and the deadly event locked together in one landscape.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as FORTIFIED HOUSE; BAWN; site of BATTLE (1641). Recorded period: C17TH; POST-MED; UNCERTAIN. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Catholic rebels and Protestant authorities fought at the fortified house in Staffordstown around 1641. The battle, part of the wider 1641 Irish revolt, resulted in a rebel victory, contributing to the escalation of conflict in Ulster.
