What is recorded here

Fort Horsted is the largest pentagonal fort in the Chatham Ring, completed in 1889 and now reduced to a car depot. Its cement walls and hidden tunnels represented the final major traditional defence in England before improved gunnery rendered them obsolete. The site still holds iron railings and a possible access tunnel, preserving the scale of that abandoned ambition.
Fort Horsted is shown as a fort on the public map of Medway. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
