What is recorded here
Kilaned Graveyard lost its stones and borders long ago, forcing the dead beneath an ordinary garden on the south ledge of Glencolumbkille. People may still drop seeds into soil that once held bones, unknowing that the valley watches through new life rather than broken markers. The west end of the glen keeps its own quiet ledger, writing memory into pasture instead of stone.
Marked 'Kilaned Graveyard (site of)' on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map. There is now no surface evidence. The site is now used as a yard and garden. It is situated on a ledge on the S side of Glencolumbkille overlooking fair pasture at the W end of the valley.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
