Fast Castle Head cut the North Sea as a Forfarshire smack, its wooden hull built for speed rather than show. The vessel belonged to the nineteenth century, when Forfarshire sailors depended on clean lines and heavy cargo to survive winter storms. It is recorded at a point near Fast Castle Head, not a preserved deck or marked museum bay. The sea kept the sharper details while the coast retained the name.
