Castle Street in Forfar still holds a nineteenth-century building at 28-32, its shop front facing the town’s daily flow. Anglian hands may have shaped the stone, or later merchants may have hammered the wood until it sang under their palms. The address resists forgetting because ordinary people kept returning to it, buying, selling, arguing or loving inside rooms no longer named.
