Fordyce Castle is a T-plan tower house in Aberdeenshire whose oldest part dates from 1592. Thomas Menzies of Durn built it as an L-plan stronghold, and a west wing added in 1700 completed its present shape. Its circular stair tower, angle turrets, shot holes and vaulted basement reveal a home made for both display and defence. The north wing later became a parish school, while the main tower fell into neglect before restoration.
