Floors Castle is a vast ducal palace on the River Tweed, enlarged by William Henry Playfair between 1838 and 1847 to create a fantasy of turrets and battlements. The Ker family still lives there, filling the grand rooms with Brussels tapestries and French furniture gathered across three centuries. It is not a dead museum but an occupied house, where the strange scale of the building and the continuity of its owners turn a visit into an encounter with living history.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Floors Castle as Pond (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Floors Castle was built in the 13th century by the Maxwells, a powerful Scottish border family, and later held by the Earls of Winton. It is important as one of the largest and best-preserved castles on the Scottish borders, symbolizing the region's turbulent medieval history and noble heritage.
